She was brought up in a Punjabi household in Delhi alongside her younger sisters Radhika and Suhani.
Initially, Pooja started off her career as a model.
She has a dog named Charlie and Chikoo.
Pooja made her debut feature film appearance as Pooja in Dushmani in 2002, at the age of 19. Later, she was cast in her first TV show as Zameen Se Aassman Tak in 2004.
In 2006, she made her debut Kannada language film appearance as Nandini in Mungaru Male. It was one of her most successful films of all time. The film was the first in India to be screened in theatre for more than a year. After that, Pooja became one of the most popular and highest-paid actresses in Kannada cinema.
She was placed in The Banglore Times‘ list of “25 Most Desirable Women of 2012”.
In 2012, Pooja joined the Karnataka Janata Paksha party. After that, in 2013, she joined Badavara Shramikara Raitara Congress (2013). Later, she contested from Janata Dal (Secular) party in 2013.
