Zion Lateef Williamson born July 6, 2000, is an American professional basketball player for the New Orleans Pelicans of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is the power forward player. Zion Williamson was drafted 1st overall by the Pelicans in his 2019 NBA Draft after spending his year with the Blue Devils. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2020. In 2021, he was selected for the All-Star Game, making him the fourth youngest NBA player.

Williamson later began working with his stepfather, former college basketball player Lee Anderson, to hone his skills as a point guard.
He joined the basketball team at Johnakine Middle School in Marion, South Carolina, where he was again coached by his mother and averaged 20 points per game. In middle school, Williamson was a point guard at him and in two years he lost only three games. In 2013, he led Johnakine to an 8-1 record and conference title.
Williamson was born in Salisbury, North Carolina to Lateef Williamson and Sharonda Sampson. Lateef played his football defensively at Mayo High School in Darlington, South Carolina. He was named an All-American High School in 1993 in Livingston, where he enrolled at North Carolina State University before moving to college.
Lateef and Sharonda attended Livingston College. They met and fell in love while in college. After college, Sharonda worked as a middle school health and physical education teacher. Sharonda and Lateef’s married life did not go well. The couple soon divorced and separated when Zion was 5 years old.
